Nicholas was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in May 2009. He completed chemotherapy all through his high school years at Neelin. Treament ended August 2012 and he left for Waterloo University in Ontario to begin studies in Astro Physics. Recently during a routine check up it was determined that he has relapsed and the leukemia had come back. Nicholas has returned to Manitoba and completed 2 rounds of chemo and radiation and is presently awaiting a stem cell transplant. Both Nicholas' brothers Zachary and Jonathan were tested as potential stem cell donars and Jonathan was found to be a perfect match. Transplant will be taking place in early November at the Health Science Center in Winnipeg.Funds raised will go toward travel and other medical expenses. Support from Friends and Family is is very appreciated by Nicholas. The Bertram family is very grateful for any donation. Alternatively, donating blood with Canadian Blood Services or registering as a potential stem cell donor would be fantastic. Thank you from Nicholas and the Bertram Family.
