Hi, my name is Heidi, and I am starting a LFEBridge for my husband, Kevin, who was diagnosed at stage 4 with a very rare, very aggressive form of kidney cancer called Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC). He is 34 years old and has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He is my whole world. Kevin and I have the most undeniable love. We met many years ago when we worked together in college and fell in love, but being young and dumb, we messed it up and wound up with other people. But they say if it’s meant to be, it will be. Ten years later, Kevin came back into my life and we fell in love all over again. That was only three years ago. We got engaged last year and were planning our wedding for March 2024, but when Kevin was diagnosed, we pushed our wedding up, and we were married two weeks ago. He is truly the love of my life and having to start our life together by battling this terrible disease is the definition of hell. Watching him be in constant pain, struggle to get his treatment because of insurance and money, fighting with doctors to get his medications and spending almost the entire month of June and now also the entire 2 weeks since our wedding in the hospital… it is truly hell. Kevin started having back pain in February but was told that it was muscle spasms. He finally had an MRI the end of April and was told that he had cancer. A biopsy taken mid-May revealed our worst nightmare, the cancer he has is a very rare and very aggressive form of kidney cancer. He has had two rounds of chemotherapy, but the tumors inside him continue to grow at an alarming rate. We are currently in FL but need to travel up to NY so that Kevin can treat with a doctor who specializes in rare forms of kidney cancer. We are starting a LFEBridge to help with the costs associated with his cancer treatment, costs of prescriptions, costs of traveling to NY and also loss of income. Kevin is unable to work, and as his sole caretaker, I am only able to work a few hours a week when I can. I am not someone who asks for help easily, but throughout the last two months, we have seen firsthand that the money is always first. We have faced the realities of health insurance denying treatment and delaying the process by weeks. We were lucky enough to have his first two rounds of chemo on charity from the hospital, but we cannot rely on that happening again. Getting Kevin the treatment he needs is crucial and time is against us. Please, if you can help at all, any little bit adds up and could be the difference between getting treatment or not, quite literally life or death. Anything you can do we appreciate so much. He is my everything and I need to at least be able to give him a fighting chance. Thank you – from the bottom of our hearts – for anything you can do to help.
