I met this family last July, when I was going to the Greyhound bus station for our Grannies Respond group. They had fled Venezuela and made the extremely difficult trip from Venezuela to here, which included the dangerous crossing of the Darian Gap. They had no sponsors or family here. They ended up staying with me in my home in Lake Claire Cohousing for a week. They are an amazing family. During that week we at cohousing really enjoyed getting to know them. Also, during that week, they managed to find a job and a place to live! Despite their skill, determination, positive attitude and hard work, the last year has been very difficult for them in so many ways. Their asylum application is due very soon! Even with working so hard including overtime or working a night job, then going to another one early the next morning, (whenever work was available), they have only managed to pay the expenses of a place to live and food to eat. I am asking for help for them so they can get the needed legal paperwork that has to be done. Your generosity and kindness will be much appreciated. Betty Jo Stevens
