I am a sophomore at Wilcox High School and have been nominated to represent my school and community at the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine. I will attend this program at UC Berkeley, where I will experience the life of a first year medical student, including living in the UC Berkeley dorms for nine days.By attending NYLF, I will join other motivated students from around the country for an experiential career exploration program. I have attached a sample of our itinerary, which will include a live viewing of a full knee replacement surgery. As you can see, this will be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with respected professionals in the medical field while building relationships with students who may be my future colleagues.Attending this program will enable me to further my interest in the field of Medicine and help me determine if Medicine is the best career choice for me. I will also earn college credit upon successful completion of this program. I maintain a 4.28 GPA, and am involved in clubs and sports. Imagine if you had been given this opportunity for a life-changing experience when you were in school and how it may have impacted your life and career choices. My participation in the program depends on whether I can raise $2,945.00 in sponsorships. The program tuition is $3,671.06. I am investing every dollar I can of my own money to make sure I don’t miss out on this unique experience and am also taking on extra jobs to raise the funds I need. In addition, through my family, friends and neighbors, I have already raised $726.06. That leaves me with a balance of $2,945.00, and I am hoping that you will consider assisting me with some of these costs. My tuition must be paid no later than May 1, 2016. Your support for my sponsorship request would be greatly appreciated.
