Hello, friends and family! I am setting up this fundraiser for my sister, Nan Determan. Nan has survived many illnesses and injuries in her lifetime. This time she will need our help! Nan has just been approved for a left lung transplant. This transplant is needed because as a young woman, in 1984, Nan was in a horrific car accident. While in the UW Madison Trauma Center recovering from her injuries, she contracted Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Thankfully she recovered from that but it took a huge toll on the health of her lungs. The transplant team is telling us that the average wait time for surgery after insruance approval is 30 days. While she does have insurance, there are many, many costs not covered. Nan and her caregivers will need to stay in Madison for several weeks after her transplant and hospitalization so that she is close to the hospital if needed. Even after coming home, she will have many travel expenses to get Madison, WI from Lena, IL for appointments. She also has several out of pocket costs for doctors, medications and treatments. Nan has touched so many lives with her loving, nurturing spirit. She has also raised tens of thousands of dollars for Relay for Life after recovering from Breast Cancer.
