In March 2024 our beautiful, incredible Mother and Wife was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma - a type of blood cancer. This diagnosis shook our world. The word 'Cancer' is something you hear too often. It is the most overwhelming feeling any of us have ever experienced. It has taken all five of us by complete suprise and has reminded us how precious this life is and how important it is to have our health. Mum started her treatment at the Whyalla Hospital but has started to receive treatment at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. We are having to be there for extended periods, and the time duration is mostly unknown depending on the results of the treatment. The Leukaemia Foundation has an apartment complex in Adelaide where they provide free accommodation to country people affected by blood cancer. The generosity from this foundation and the staff at the Adelaide house particularly has completely blown us away and has certainly taken a lot of financial pressure off of Mum and Dad. In saying all of this, Dad, Ashton and I have decided to shave our hair off. Mum has recently lost her hair due to the chemotherapy and we thought what better way to support her by shaving our hair off with her. We also wanted to show our deep appreciation to the Leukaemia Foundation. Their generosity is truly humbling and these charities can not help families, just like ours all over Australia without donations. We will be shaving our hair off on September 8th. None of us have cut our hair in years and we could not think of a better reason to say goodbye to our beloved locks. 100% of donations raised will be going to the Leukaemia Foundation, including our hair which will be made into wigs for cancer patients. Westland Newsagency will also have a donation tin in store if you would prefer to donate this way. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and please remember never to take your health or loved ones for granted, this life is precious. Much Love.
