*** UPDATE *** It is with a heavy heart that I must share this news. On Sunday afternoon Phil passed away peacefully at home. He was comforted by his wonderful caregiver, Bird at his side, while loved ones were deep in prayer at the ashram in Taos. Phil will now be reunited with his soulmate, Amy and beloved cat, Gustavo. He will be remembered for his love of Indian drums and the music he shared with so many. His legacy will be his students who will carry on the tradition of Indian drumming. These funds were crucial in keeping Phil comfortable during his last days. The remaining funds will now be used for funeral expenses and a celebration of life to be announced soon. If you have any questions or would like to help with the celebration of life, please reach out via the LFEBridge portal. Dear Beloved friends of Phil, My name is Kamala and I am Phil’s daughter. I am raising money for my father, who is in late-stage COPD. As many of you know, he currently lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Instead of joining me in California at this critical time, he wants to stay in New Mexico, and be among his many dear friends and trusted alternative medical professionals that he has developed deep relationships with, which is understandable. At this time he is not able to fully care for himself. The evenings are especially hard. He does receive help some mornings, but only during the week, and could use more help during the evening and on the weekends. Because of the lack of decent and reliable caregiving, Phil is under a tremendous amount of physical, emotional, and financial stress. It is especially challenging for him on days when he is faced with an entire day alone without help. Despite all of these challenges, he remains hopeful and positive about the future and is dedicated to teaching students, so that he may continue the lineage of classical Indian Pakhawaj drum. As many of you know, Phil was instrumental in bringing this music to America for the first time. He has dedicated his life to preserving and exposing the Western world, and North America, to this dhrupad music, as well as, the music and dance of the artists who have accompanied him. Because of his dedication to the preservation of this lineage, he was able to allow people to hear the music in its full context, along with the drum. This has always been important to him, and the way he continues this practice today is through his teaching. With some assistance from caregivers, he would be much more able to focus on teaching, as well as, his overall health and well-being. Many wonderful friends in the area, and even those who live a few hours away, have been helping when they can. But unfortunately, most of them are busy with other commitments on most evenings. If you live near Phil and have some time to offer, please call Julie at (575) [phone redacted], or MJ at (505) [phone redacted]. If we were able to raise enough money to hire someone to come for one or two hours in the evening, to heat some food for him, make him some tea, and keep him company, it would help to give him a better quality of life. Our goal is to raise enough to pay for a caregiver (or split between 2) to come every morning and evening, for a few hours, 7 days per week, for one year, and any other services that will help him become independent in his home. For example, the cost of a caregiver might look like the following: At $50 per day, that would be $350 per week. $350 for 52 weeks totals $18,200 for a year of care. If there is any money left over it would carry into the next year for his continued care.s For all of Phil's life, he has dedicated himself to keeping the classical Indian music tradition alive. Through his tireless dedication, he has contributed immense joy and spiritual connection to the lives of countless individuals, and now is your opportunity to thank him with a thoughtful donation, which will ensure his comfort, peace of mind, and ability to remain independent in his current home. Thank you for anything you can donate. We really appreciate you! Much Love, Kamala
