In early 2024, my daughter started to have challenges with digesting food. After losing way too much weight and becoming medically unstable, she spent 6 weeks in a specialty hospital in Denver as they worked to figure things out. After being stabilized and discharged, she spent the next six months enduring a feeding tube 24/7 to help maintain her weight, only to find out she will need surgery to 'maybe' correct the issue. Her junior year at Rice University has been overshadowed by medical issue after medical issue, and through it all, she has maintained amazing grades. My daughter has a level of strength that I can't even imagine, much less muster. She deserves to feel better. In August, she is scheduled to have the corrective surgery and we are hopeful this will bring closure to what has been an emotionally exhausting 18 months for all of us. She is expected to be in the hospital for about a week post-surgery and will need continued medical care in the weeks following. We are both hopeful and nervous at this prospect. Her medical bills are piling up at a head-spinning rate and we are hoping for a little breathing room as we navigate these next few steps. Anything you can offer would be greatly appreciated. **UPDATE** - thank you to everyone for the support. Morgan's surgery has been pushed back to December due to her doctor's concern about her ability to handle the recovery and the managing of the logistics involved. The surgery date is set for December 5th.
