Alex has always been a helpful and thoughtful person since he was a young boy. He’s always been family oriented. He enjoys the presence of his family members and spending quality time with them. Alex had a passion for football. He enjoyed watching and playing the sport. His biggest dream was to play football in hopes of getting a scholarship to play in college. His motive was to eventually play in the NFL and have the ability to give his family a house. Unfortunately, that dream was struck one afternoon on February 2015. One afternoon he was lifting weights with his high school football team and suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital unconscious and nearly without life. He was revived in the ambulance and taken into the hospital. After hours of uncertainty and not knowing what had happened to Alex, his family received the devastating news that Alex suffered a severe spinal cord injury. He had been paralyzed from the neck down and was not able to breathe on his own. From that moment on he had to use a ventilator to breathe and had a body that no longer responded to his commands. This was a new reality to Alex. He struggled to accept his new life. He experienced moments of anger, frustration, and sadness, wondering if he would ever find happiness again. His doctor told him he would be a vegetable and would never walk again or even move a finger again. Alex went to therapy for a few sessions in a recovery center until it was taken away from him because his insurance said he maxed out his limits. After facing this rough moment he decided he wanted to work on himself, while being home stuck in a bed. He wanted to move again. Alex began at home therapy with the help of his family to regain movement. He also worked with his at home nurse to train himself to get off the ventilator. It’s been years like this and there have been some minor improvements. One afternoon this year, in 2024, he came across a recovery center, called Project Walk located in Mount Laurel, NJ, that specializes in paralyzed patients. With the center being 2 hours away from home he decided to go for a consultation. Project walk was able to stand him up so he can see himself on his feet again. They gave him that hope of being able to regain movements in his body. The therapists saw his marvelous effort and were astonished as to what he can do. They see the potential in him and said working hard in therapy will be able to get him to walk again. Alex has never been more optimistic and excited to get back up on his feet. The only obstacle is that all his treatments have to be paid cash. Therefore, his family and loved ones have decided to create a LFEBridge page to help Alex get back up on his feet again. From the bottom of our hearts we accept any donation and are truly thankful for helping us in getting Alex one step closer to his goal. It’s been a sad 8 years and we hope to give Alex the happiness of being able to walk again. XOXO
