The CSI Suncoast Chapter is asking for your help in raising money to help support Rocco and his Mother, Dallas. The two of them are very near and dear to our hearts. We are eager to help them get back on their feet and hope you will consider helping us reach our goal! Rocco was born on April 28, 2024, weighing only 4lbs 13 oz. In addition to being born with an Atrioventricular Canal Heart Defect, he was also born with Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome). Only 2 days after birth, Rocco became ill due to a blockage which then turned into sepsis. Doctors said he was on the verge of death and needed emergency surgery. He was airlifted from Sarasota Memorial at 8am and was in the operating room at John Hopkins All Children's Hospital by 5pm. His organs were twisted and oddly grew inside of him. They had to take his organs out and hang them up to force them to fall back into place the correct way. They also had to put a bypass in him so his little body could process nutrients. His body was left open for 6 days. Once they were finally able to close him up, he didn't eat for 16 days. He went from 4lbs to 9lbs just from swelling. A few weeks later, his body stopped using the bypass and started working on it's own! However, after 2 months of eating he was not growing. Turns out, there was another blockage that the Doctors did not see the first time. This resulted in a second surgery on July 3rd. Now 4 weeks after his last surgery, he weighs 7lbs 8oz! He is exceeding all expectations that the Doctors had for him. With his heart defect, Doctors said he should've been on a breathing machine from the time he was born. Instead, he's been breathing on his own from day 1! The doctors are so impressed with Rocco that they're wanting to do a case study on him in hopes to help future similar cases. He is truly a miracle from God! As you can imagine, Rocco and his mother are struggling. His mother has been out of work since the baby was born. She is falling way behind on bills and also needs help getting tangible items for the baby.
