As many of you already know, Mikey (Michael/MAZ) has gone through a few challenging months. It goes without saying this is not something we thought we would need to do or ask of anyone, although as the months past and the medical bills/living expenses (basic rent/food/utilities & transportation costs continue to grow) this has become necessary. Back in April Mikey was hit by a "under the influence" driver, car was totaled due to the damages. Although his vehicle was not the best, it was paid for and functional. This kick started as series of events over the course of a next several weeks. From the accident Mike began to experience back pain/discomfort, eventually he ended at the ER and pain medication was provided. At this point he was already out of work (used all his sick time) for approx. 2 weeks. We thought this situation was behind him and only some physical therapy was needed for the back issues resulted from the accident, until the day he went back to work. It was close to the end of his shift and passed out and was taken to the ER again. This time due to the nature of the incident a Cat-Scan was completed. Although all seemed ok- the results indicated an "incidental finding" of a brain mass. Mike was now required to have immediate follow up with a Neurosurgeon. As you can imagine our families life was turned upside down in a second. Not to mention any back issues were immediately put on hold. After a few more tests and provider visits, it was identified surgery was needed to have the mass removed. The Craniotomy was immediately scheduled for 2 weeks later. Mike went through the craniotomy procedure and few days in the hospital and tolerated that very well. The results were the best we could have asked for, full removal of the mass! However at this point, it was unsure if any radiation or chemo would be required. He was sent to Roswell for a consultation. A few weeks later following the surgery we were told there was no further treatments required as the mass was bengin and because all was removed, he will be followed up by Roswell in 6 months. Due to the fact that Mike lost consciousness, he was immediately placed on Seizure medication prior to surgery as well as following. Being a single father to Skylar, this has caused an inability to be able to support or even spend the time with her as they are all used to. Just being able to be alone with her for long periods of time while on the medication was changed to having someone else there or only for a few hours as we were unsure how he would feel as well as managing all the medication. As you can imagine this alone was very difficult for Mike. Going from having her 3-4 days a week to a few hurs or only seeing her via FaceTime. As he continues to be under a neurologists care (for the rest of his life) we are now taking additional steps to identify the root casue, we do know the mass was not a cause from the accident, however we are unsure if the jolt from the hit or medicaton for the back had any part of this. In lieu of having an "in-person" benefit, we thought creating a Go-Fund Me Page on his behalf (he was not aware we are doing this until it was posted) would be a way we could hopefully help with his everyday expenses and continued follow up co-pays/out of pocket expenses. Any assistance is appreciated to reduce the burden and contant worry he is experiencing!
