UPDATE:Ultimately, Mike lost is battled with cancer yesterday, March 8th.  He will be greatly missed.  In an effort to help the family with his final expenses I have updated this campaign.  Mike had been unable to work for a while and Cheri needed to be able to care for him, so they are currently without any income and only had a small life insurance policy.  Please consider making a donation to help the family during this time.  Also, feel free to share this campaign and of course pray for the family!***********************************************************Mike and Cheri Ferguson are an amazing, generous, and kind couple.  They have so much love to give, in fact, that they have taken responsibility for more than one exchange student - inviting these young people into their homes, their lives, and their hearts.  In March of 2015 Mike was diagnosed with stage 3 renal cell cancer.  He immediately underwent major surgery to remove the kidney and was put on medication to try and control the growth  of the cancer.  Unfortunately, his cancer has been very aggressive and 2 months later they found in a scan that it had metastasized to his lungs where he had several nodes growing.  2 months later there where more and on both lungs. The medications used to control the growth have not helped at all.  At this point the nodes have doubled in size since they first appeared.Mike and Cheri just made a trip to the Winship Cancer Center in Atlanta, only to hear there were no treatment options for him there.  After a follow-up with his oncologist they are set up to visit the center in Charlotte with hopes they will have a clinical trial for him.  Currently, the news from the doctor has not been favorable and they are praying some treatment options will be available.  Without that, the doctors advised Cheri and Mike that the outlook is grim due to the aggressiveness his cancer has shown. If Mike is able to get into a trial in Charlotte it would mean weekly trips.  Hopefully just day trips, but its also likely they will have to stay for a week at a time at some points in the trial.  As you can imagine, the cost of medical care and these trips, along with time off of work and making arrangements for their young children has been a financial hardship.  Without help these trips wouldn't be possible.  So, I decided to start a fund to raise money to help cover the cost of these trips and other medical care needs Mike may have.  Please consider coming along-side this family in their time of need and making a donation.  Big or small it all counts, it all helps, it will all be prayed over and I guarantee you they will be grateful for every dollar.Mike has continued to work through this ordeal as he has been able, and his employer has been very gracious and kind.  I have met few men so dedicated to a strong work ethic and providing for his family.  That being said, we are unsure how long he will be able to continue and how much more his employer will be able to continue working with him.   I would love to see that burden lifted from them so that they can focus on his battle against cancer.  Studies have shown that a positive and supportive environment with the least amount of stress possible is most conducive to beating cancer.Lets show our love and support now!  If you can't make a monetary donation, please consider committing to praying for them daily and sending weekly  words of encouragement to them via letter or email.  The truth is: this is scary, and its comes with enough of its own worries.  So, ask yourself "What can I do to help".
