My Name is Marsha Denise Ford. I am a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) practicing in Georgia for more than 30 years. I was the first African American Midwife to own a private practice in Eastpoint, Ga. While owning and operating my business, OB-GYN and Midwife Associates, we provided women’s health, prenatal, labor and delivery and post-partum care. I have delivered more than five thousand babies over my career, most of which were in the hospital. This includes natural births, water births, vaginal births after cesarean and epidural births after attempting natural births. I passionately believe that no mother should ever give birth to a baby by herself. She needs a village for help, care and support. Families are not just mothers and fathers. They consist of a village. Your Midwife can be part of that village. When the two hospitals that served my communities closed, I had to close my practice as I could no longer stay in compliance with Georgia state law and remain in business. However, I now perform home births. My goal has always been and continues to this day, to educate and to provide good, quality health care to underserved communities. I am now on a mission to take my skills to other countries and continue to educate families on their choices and build villages. Recently, I was blessed, and selected to go with a team of Midwives, Birth Workers, and Doulas to Zanzibar Africa, September 30 – October 15, 2024. While there, I will train Birth Workers and provide education in midwifery. My goal is to raise $10,000.00 US Dollars by August 30, 2024. All funds are for travel, meals, transportation and a $2500.00 donation to the center in Zanzibar. Please help me on this mission. I have always wanted to give back in other countries, but my practice would not afford me the time. Now I am free, and I desire to go with every fiber of my being. It is often said that when one door closes, another opens. Please help me walk through this open door.
