Hello Family & Friends~ Joey and I would like to welcome you to our fundraiser... Michele's Medical Support ❤️ Our sister, Michele Byrne, has been hospitalized for the last 7 weeks battling a very aggressive MSSA staph infection. Just prior to falling gravely ill, Michele had undergone two breast cancer surgeries and a round of radiation leaving her immune system quite compromised. It was during the healing stage from her most recent surgery that Michele noticed an infection at the incision site. Fluid was drained but unfortunately we can only assume that the infection wasn't caught soon enough and had seeped into her bloodstream. Michele's battle has been fierce and she is enduring severe pain throughout her entire body. The first couple weeks, Michele was incoherent and her heart kept stopping as the heart valves that push the blood back out into the body, were full of infection, therefore basically just repeatedly reinfecting her; leading to open heart surgery. Blood cultures, MRIs and x-rays are continually being done to try to stay ahead of the infection which had spread to her spine and brain. Then some good news... Blood cultures were coming back free of infection. The doctors took this reprieve and went in to replace those two now compromised heart valves. Now Michele just needed to gain strength as she is unable to stand/walk unassisted. After 7 weeks Michele was looking at the promising chance to finally go home. A setback... The pain. More blood tests reveal the staph infection we thought was finally gone is still present in her back. One day prior to discharge and her hospital stay is extended for at least another two weeks. Michele, understandably, feels completely defeated. To help ease some of this burden, Michele's immediate family humbly requests donations to assist with medical expenses as well as day-to-day living expenses. After what we hope will only be 9 weeks in the hospital, Michele will not be able to return to work for several months as she recuperates. She does have medical insurance, although as we all know, it will not cover everything leaving Michele with exorbitantly daunting medical bills. Her insurance will also not cover any outpatient rehabilitation that is greatly needed to help her gain strength back in her extremities. Our precious mom, Dianne, moved to Maine last year to live with Michele which thankfully allows her to be close to her daughter during this difficult time. Mom has been valiantly trying to hold everything together financially, but being 78 on a fixed income, it is just not sustainable. Not to mention the emotional toll it is taking so anything to lessen the burden on mom would be a huge relief. Now if you are still reading, which the family so appreciates, reaching out for help is never easy and we do not take this lightly so if you feel compelled to donate, please know how very grateful we are for your blessing. Thank you, stay safe and much love ❤️
