Hi, friends. Bry and Meagan here. We’re asking for your help. If you know our mom, MerriDee, there’s a chance she’s helped you or your family. Her selfless nature is known across our community and beyond. Whether she’s served you food at our family’s restaurant, given you helpful advice, donated to your fundraiser, or something else… she has likely impacted your life positively in one way or another. But now, it's our turn to help her. Our mom was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer. The news came as a shock to her and our family. But by a stroke of fortune, the cancer was discovered early and incidentally due to an unrelated salmonella infection. After weeks and weeks of being bed ridden after a vacation in Mexico due to salmonella, the doctors decided to check for internal bleeding. That’s when they discovered the mass inside her right kidney. Thinking it may just be a shadow, her doctor ordered an MRI to confirm. They confirmed, unfortunately, that it wasn’t just a shadow. It’s kidney cancer. We truly believe that this early discovery was nothing short of a miracle. The prognosis for fast action is great, but she needs to have the kidney immediately removed to prevent spread. Here’s why we need your help: our mom is self-employed. As a business owner, when things get tight, you have to cut costs. Due to the high cost of health insurance ($2900 per month for her and Bob, her husband) and insane deductible ($17,000)--and due to her good health before this moment-- our mom decided to forgo health insurance to help cut costs. Now, after this diagnosis, no insurance will cover her. And she has to pay $85,000 for the surgery -- out of pocket. (WHAT a country we live in, huh?) We’re reaching out to you, friends, to help lighten this load on our mom. Every donation, no matter how small, will go a long way in helping her fight this battle.
