Hi, friends. [[tl;dr (summary) - We are faced with a ridiculous medical bill for services that weren't covered by insurance but were crucial in finding out why 5-year-old Mercer couldn't walk. Please help us pay the hospital that solved the issue if you can! We love you!]] Many of you already know the horror that January 2024 was for the Tucklend family. It actually began in October 2024, when Merce (who had just turned 5) didn't want to walk home from Trick-or-Treating. His ability to walk decreased from there until he was confined to his stroller, and no one could tell us what was happening. Mercer went through tons of specialist visits, ER trips, blood tests, tears, and, finally, an MRI. Unfortunately, all those doctors were out-of-network with our insurance (Oscar), but we had to find out what was wrong with our kid. After what felt like years (but was a matter of weeks), we were so lucky that the answer was a vitamin C deficiency, also known as SCURVY (!) With vitamin supplements, Mercer has not had any lasting issues. We had a little over a year of pure joy about the easy solution, and we were so lucky/grateful that it wasn't one of the many other possibilities we had stayed up nights thinking about. We paid for some of the specialists, but so much time went by with no further bills, we thought Oscar must have come through. We were very wrong. Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital wants $31,680.50 from us. We cannot pay this. There is no part of their services we regret using, and we want to pay them, but it's just not feasible for us. We have applied for financial aid, we have appealed to both the hospital and Oscar, but no one is budging on this number. So, welcome to our last resort. We're asking our wonderful community for help if you have any extra funds, and we hate every part of it. We love you all, whether you can donate or not, but if anyone has extra change in the cushions, we'd be happy to take that off your hands :)
