Hi, my name is Nia Couling and I have started this go fund me to introduce a memorial bench in Penetanguishene, in honour of my beloved grandfather, Bill Couling, who passed away from cancer. The goal of this is to also surprise my grandmother, Cathy Couling, with the bench, so please do not tell her. As many of you know, my grandfather was a lifelong resident of Penetanguishene and deeply connected to our community. I believe that this memorial bench will serve as a fitting tribute to the remarkable individual who made a significant impact on the lives of many people. He was a member of the legion for many years, grew up playing hockey, was a graduate of Burkevale and PSS, and when he wasn't busily chauffering my sister and I around; spent the rest of his free time at the golf course. I am positive that anyone who has interacted with him has had a great belly laugh from one of his silly jokes. However, his genuine care and well-being for those around him left an indelible mark on our town. After careful consideration, I have identified the best spot to put this bench would be in Discovery Harbour where the old "Red Dock" used to be. This is where he met his high school sweetheart, my grandmother Cathy Couling, and shared many memories with childhood friends. However, because the location is not town property, it is not sure that this bench will be able to be put there. I am in the process of contacting Discovery Harbour to work this arrangement out. If this location does not work out, I am also currently in contact with the town of Penetanguishene to arrange for it to be put somewhere else. Dubeau Park Ecology Garden J. T. Payette Park Memorial Park Town Dock Bob Sullivan Park I would love some input on the best alternate location to install the bench if needed, as well as some ideas of what could be engraved to honour him.
