My daughter Melissa's health has taken a toll for the worst and she has been in a wheelchair since March 2024. After being out of work for a year her job informed her that they can no longer hold her position and with that, she also lost her medical benefits. Both families have done a great job offering time and financial support but our resources are limited. I write this asking for support from our community, family and friends. Melissa was in and out of the hospital from Elementary to middle school. High school year she pushed through the pain. After high school, she became a wonderful mother to two boys and a wife. She started a promising career and volunteered her time teaching line dance and doing face painting. As an adult, her symptoms became worse. In March 2024, she was admitted for 6 weeks. That is when my beautiful daughter lost her ability to walk. With hard work, determination, therapy and help from her husband, Melissa was able to learn how to get around and care for herself and her boys. In December 2024, Melissa relapsed and all the progress she had made was gone. She spent another 6 weeks in the hospital. Her journey has been difficult, filled with pain and uncertainty. Frightening, frustrating and depressing. She knows that she will have struggles for the rest of her life, yet she smiles and remains hopeful. Over the years she has been diagnosed with Ehler-Danlos Syndrome (which causes her joints to dislocate), Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Vertigo along with spinal problems. She's in a lot of pain most days with daily chronic migraines. Her legs are very sensitive to touch or move causing excruciating pain They live in Boulder Creek in a very small house(712 sqft) which is not ADA-accessible. Her wheelchair doesn't fit in her tiny kitchen, bathroom or kids' room. There's no heating or cooling system. Outside of her house is mostly dirt, so when it rains it becomes muddy. This makes it difficult without a ramp to her house. Her 2006 Toyota Sienna accessible van has multiple problems and a newer reliable van is $40,000 up. The ramp to her van broke. She needs a different van chair for easier transfer. Locking system for the wheelchair. She also needs a Manual wheelchair with proper cushion, back support, a chest strap for stability, a headrest for spinal support, and power assist since she doesn't have the strength to push it. As you can imagine, her medical bills are astronomical and she needs some help to not only pay them but to be able to continue to see the specialists to get the necessary testing with the hope that one of them will figure out what's going on. Can you please help? Any help that you can give is most appreciated. It could mean that Melissa would be able to live a simple and joyful life with dignity. A life that she deserves. To raise her two children and to be a good wife.
