My name is Elias Escamilla (aka Eli) In August of 2024, I will attend a medical missions conference in Kona, Hawaii, hosted by Youth With A Mission (YWAM). After the conference, I will join a YWAM medical team for a two-week outreach in Madang, Papua New Guinea (PNG). Eighty percent of the population in PNG lives in deep jungles and isolated islands without access via roads, bridges, or planes. Therefore, PNG nationals suffer from medical and spiritual isolation. From a medical perspective, the lack of available resources on top of difficult access has rendered many people in PNG critically ill from treatable diseases. Spiritually, many people in PNG have yet to receive a Bible in their language because many of their languages are only oral and not written. YWAM’s effort in PNG is to bridge the spiritual and medical isolation gap. As a short-term medical volunteer, I will support YWAM’s mobile medical clinics as we provide primary care consultations, treatments, immunizations, and minor orthopedic, optical, and dental surgeries. The medical team also supports Bible translators on the ground who are actively turning oral languages into written languages, and translating the Bible into these languages, one book at a time. I invite you to consider partnering with me financially to support my vision and desire to bring the gospel and medical treatment to isolated areas of PNG. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
