On July 13, 2024, my mother-in-law was notified there was a matching donor for her and was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to receive a lung transplant. She has been battling pulmonary fibrosis after originally being misdiagnosed for several years. Her lung disease had advanced so much that when she sought a second opinion it left her with no choice but to start the process for lung transplant evaluation. She was finally recently placed on the lung transplant list on June 22, 2024. We were told to expect a 3-6 month wait on a donor offer, however, we were fortunate enough to only wait for 3 weeks until she received the call for a matching donor! She was rushed to Los Angeles that same night to prepare for the transplant surgery. Financially our family has been struggling because of the aftercare required - this includes a constant rotation of family members traveling to LA to monitor her and assist her with rehabilitation at the hospital. Once she is released, she will require doctor appointments at Cedars-Sinai on a weekly basis, and they are requiring she stays near the hospital for 6-8 weeks in case of an emergency due to her delicate state from this invasive surgery. She will also need special medical care and medication for the rest of her life. All money donated will be used to pay for medical expenses, gas, housing/hotels, and any other unforeseen expenses.
