Family and Friends of Marissa- After much prayer, I’ve been led to share my sister’s story with you. I am one of those who is closest to her so I have been able to witness first hand the impact of her auto-immune disorders and most recently, the decline in her health from Lupus. If you are unfamiliar with Lupus, it is an anti-inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues. It can be debilitating as it affects the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs. Currently, there is no cure. Most of us know that major life events and changes can be stressful and overwhelming. Unexpectedly, her doctor discovered an ovarian cyst, post hysterectomy, that has been contributing to her non-stop flare up of Lupus for the past several months. He has encouraged her that removal of her last ovary would be at her best interest for her health and future. Alongside, post-hormone therapy which is typically contraindicated for a Lupus patient with risk of DVT or pulmonary blood clots. Therefore, her specialist in Lufkin will customize a non-invasive and non-life threatening approach specific to Marissa’s hormone therapy. With that said comes the storm of financial burdens associated with illnesses such as this and the demands of maintaining her health safely. Medical expenses, travel/lodging to her specialist in Lufkin who will administer Hyperbaric Chamber Therapy prior to and after surgery for several days (to prevent sepsis), medication and the needs of her boys are just some of the basic expenses she faces. Marissa proudly leads her family as the main provider for her and her 3 growing boys-Kanin (14), Kash (12) and Jax (7). The 3 reasons she lives for! We are grateful for your continued prayers and support as this season has been a long journey of healing!
