A few of Shelly's friends put this page together to help her raise money as she fights ALS. We will provide updates as often as we can. Here's her story:On January 1, 2015 Shelly had a fall at work. She twisted her leg and it got progressively worse. Shelly thought she had some nerve damage but then she started walking differently. She started going to multiple doctors and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then Shelly's speech became slurred, and she thought she had suffered a stroke. Shelly had six MRIs and a CAT scan to try to figure out what was going on. She finally went to a neurologist because walking became even more difficult. After two months of ruling out everything (stroke and MS were possibilities) the doctor gave her a diagnosis of Lou Gehrig's disease, which is ALS. To learn more, please visit www.als.org. In the fall of 2015, Shelly filed for disability with Social Security because she can no longer work. After months, there was no update on her case and she was forced to move out of her home because she now has no income. Shelly moved to California and lives with her sister. Shelly is a very spirited and independent person and is having a hard time letting other people help her but we know she would do anything to help a friend, so please help her today if you have the resources to do so. Any amount helps! Thank you for taking the time to read her story. All of the money raised here will be used for her ongoing medical bills and living expenses if necessary.
