Hi, my name is Sarah Overstreet and I work closely with Alan Lewis (AL) at Jefferson Lab where he helps run the machine shop. These funds will be used to help AL and his family with his medical expenses. AL has been out of work since early June. He has had trouble with his gallbladder which caused sepsis (blood poisoning), which in turn caused heart problems and kidney failure which put him on dialysis…. his kidney function has recently improved allowing him to come off of dialysis. With weeks of physical therapy, he was able be discharged yesterday (Aug. 7) but the physical therapy was only to get him strong enough for the needed gallbladder surgery, which he is only able to survive due to a cholecystostomy (a procedure to put a tube into the gallbladder to drain the toxic fluid). Despite all of this, he has been strong and completely selfless. For example, we just hired a new guy in the machine shop (Kevin) and Al called from the hospital to apologize for not being there to welcome Kevin. If you know AL, you know that he has a BIG heart for others. Now is our chance to support him when he needs it the most. Thank you for your love and support.
