Hi, My name is Robert Hardy, and I'm starting this fundraiser to support my dear friend Sarah Lindsey. Sarah is one of the most amazing people I know. If you know Sarah, you probably feel the same way. My family has been so fortunate to have Sarah in our lives for the past 12+ years. She has helped counsel and encourage us when we have experienced extreme medical crises (and more recently when we suffered the tragic and sudden loss of my wife to Leukemia). We have benefitted so much through the years from her creativity, her phenomenal artistic skills, and especially from her incredible and ever-present sense of humor. Several months ago, Sarah was diagnosed with multiple system diseases including heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and kidney disease, all related to a condition (mitochondrial disease) that went undiagnosed for decades. She is now tethered to an oxygen tank and her bed most of the time, and her condition has advanced to the point that she cannot work. The complicated nature of her illness has landed her in the hospital numerous times in recent months, and the medical bills have become a major burden for the family, both logistically and emotionally. Nobody deserves severe illness. But Sarah is the type of person who especially doesn't deserve to have to deal with this: I have never witnessed her not trying to make someone else's life better. It is my hope that this fundraiser will help to lighten the financial load on Sarah and her wonderful family so that she can continue to receive the care she needs without having to weigh her own health against her family's needs.
