Hi my name is Felicia a few days ago my husband (Stephen Bitto) was diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the lung. We were absolutely just blind sighted! What started out as hip and back pain turned into something we were totally unprepared for. For those of you who don't know us I am gonna tell you a little about us and how we ended up here. Steve and I grew up with one another he moved across the street from me way back in the mid 70's we were around 3. We were friends which turned into best friends which turned into the love of my life! We have 4 beautiful children and 3 grandchildren. We have been through so many ups and downs but through it all we always knew we had each other. Last year he started having hip pain went to the Dr and being he is a truck driver they told him he needed to stretch more. He did that but the pain still didn't go away but he pushed through kept working and taking care of us all. But a few months ago the pain just became unbearable so he went to the ER the ER Dr barely looked at him and just said you pulled a muscle in your back gave hime so muscle relaxers and Aleve. Of course it didn't help so he went to see his Dr the Dr wanted him to get a ultrasound of the abdomen to rule out appendicitis or maybe his hernia reoccurred or the mesh repair migrated. So he went to the ER and this time he had an amazing Dr that wanted to run extra tests to see what was going on. After the cat scan came back the Dr sat down to go over the results we had no clue what was beginning to unfold. The Dr thought he had lymphoma he found a lession on his hip and a few in his lower back so he referred him to a hematologist/oncologist which of course ordered more tests including a biopsy of the lession on the hip. The results came back stating it was cancer that originated from the Lung. He went for a pet scan and on Tues we received the results and were just shook! He had stage 4 adenocarcinoma of the lung that spread the the spine and bone and that surgery was not an option that they would start with radiation on the lessions on the spine that have quickly went from 2 to over 10. Then chemo in August. Prognosis is grim Dr said 1 to 2 yrs possibly 3 likely hood of longer depending on how well he does with the treatments. He is only 49yrs old and before this he was a healthy so We of course tend to fight it tooth and nail!! Giving up is not an option!! But unfortunately he is unable to work at this time and I unfortunately are not able to work outside the home for he is gonna need me to take him for treatments and will not be able to take care of our children while he is on chemo. Our son Sean is 15 and has autism and is nonverbal and tends to have meltdowns although he is 15 mentally he is more like a toddler and needs help and attention like a small child does and with Steve's health he would not be able to take care of him alone. with the cost of living these days we all are struggling to make ends meet add an illness or life threatening disease and its nearly impossible. I know none of us want to depend on the kindness of family, friends or even strangers but with the reality of what lies ahead between medical expenses on top of everyday living we find ourselves overwhelmed and in need of any monetary assistance we can receive as well as positively and prayers. I pray one day we can pay it forward as well. Thank you in advance for any and all generosity while we go through this difficult time. You are all appreciated more than you know.
