On Saturday, June 24th, 2024 Minnesota motorcycle flattrack racer Matt Johnson, was involved in an on track incident while racing in the Grand National Hooligan Championship Series portion of the American Flat Track (AFT) event at the Lima Half-Mile. Another rider got out of shape on the back straight and ended up crashing in front of Matt. Matt was able to avoid the competitor's body but had no option but to jump his legs; unfortunately, when that happened the bikes tangled and Matt was physically pulled into the wreckage. Matt says, "Huge thanks to the @americanflattrack crew and ambulance folks that took care of me on the track and got me to the ER with a quickness! I'm pretty sure my hand got tangled in the front wheel or trapped by the bar and smashed my hand and ripped that left glove off and broke some bones and blew my hand open!" Matt spent four (4) days in the Lima hospital, for two (2) surgeries, ten (10) pins, some plates, screws, wires and probably the kitchen sink to to put his hand back together. After returning home he had an additional appointment with a hand specialist. Matt is now through surgery #3 and preparing for several more for bone grafts, nerve graft and skin graft. Matt is not the type of individual to ask others for monetary assistance ... So I (Dan) am ready to step in on his behalf. As a Motorsports / Flat Track Community, let’s band together to help out this man and his family during this very difficult and stressful time. The goal is to help with medical and living expenses while he is on the road to recovery and on the mend. If you are unable to donate financially, please consider sending Matt and family some positive vibes, a gift card, or share this fundraiser! Thank you for taking the time to read this!
