In today's world, pretty much everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. When someone is diagnosed it causes a ripple effect through family and friends. It doesn't just affect the person diagnosed. Earlier this year my Mother-in-law, Mary Allison, noticed that she had 2 lumps in her left breast. Having just had a normal mammogram a couple months prior, she thought that maybe they were just cysts. Luckily she didn't ignore them and told her doctor. After having another mammogram, ultrasound, MRI and a biopsy, it was confirmed that it was indeed, cancer. Unfortunately, out of the several types of breast cancer a person can have, she was diagnosed with the worst of them all. Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. Triple-negative breast cancer tends to grow and spread more quickly than other types of breast cancer. Because of this, triple-negative breast cancer is considered to be more aggressive than other forms of breast cancer and there is no cure at this time, only treatment. Mary has already started her treatment and is currently receiving chemotherapy at City of Hope, Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, California. Mary and her team of doctors have come up with a treatment plan that consists of 12 weeks/rounds of chemotherapy and then several rounds of radiation after chemo. Once completed, we are hoping that will be enough to put her in remission for several years. If not, doctors will need to come up with a new plan of treatment. My father-in-law, Jerry, has been her rock, her support, her everything, through all of this. We know it's not easy, mentally, emotionally, physically or financially. Driving back and forth several times a week for chemo, labs and appointments is really taking a toll on them both in more ways than one. We all know that not only is healthcare expensive, but so is everything else that goes along with it. Our family has reached out to me and asked if I could start a fundraiser to help them with the costs of travel/gas, food, sometimes lodging for back-to-back appointments, deductibles, co-pays and whatever is not covered by insurance. I know times are tough for most of us these days. Anything will help and be greatly appreciated. Thank You The Allison Family
