Hello and thank you for being here! As some of you know but most do not- I am gaining US citizenship in less than a week. This has been a very long and complicated journey; from being an undocumented child to a DACA recipient, and now finally becoming a citizen. My whole life I dreamed to be where I am today. Every birthday wish, my dream was always the same. I found myself limited in my dreaming or would hit barriers due to my status. Not only did I have limited opportunities, I spent most of my young adult life using my earnings to renew work permits, lawyers, and application fees to be able to continue to work and live in the US. This went on for about 10 years, every 2 years I would have another round of expenses towards immigration legal fees, forms, and lawyers. I have a common immigrant story. My family and I immigrated here from Mexico for a better life. My father was in construction and my mom cleaned houses. They wanted more in life but those are the cards they were dealt. I helped my mom clean houses from a young age until my mid-twenties. It has been about 7 years since I last cleaned a house. I always kept my head down and did what I was told, to not draw attention, and to not ask for too much. Be grateful. And I am very grateful. My family made the best of what was given and I am so lucky. I'm here today to change my story. I want to learn how to ask for help and ask for what I need, even though it doesn't come to me naturally. I want to start this next chapter of my life pursuing what has been my passion for over 12 years. Vintage clothing has always given me a creative outlet and an entrepreneurial spirit. I had my first sale in 2011 through Etsy and haven't stopped since. My dream is to open my very own brick-and-mortar vintage shop. I want to start this new period of my life as a US citizen uplifted and not afraid to ask for help. Any size donation is sincerely appreciated and sharing is encouraged. Thank you!
