Hi, My name is Elizabeth Kurtz, but I call myself “Lit.” I shortened my name when I lost my housing and needed a name that would be easier to pronounce. Shortly after I landed on the streets and moved into my car, I found the local street paper called Groundcover News and started writing for it and selling it. I made it a business and sold papers under Lit Unlimited, LLC. That allowed me to keep a hotel room, so I rarely had to sleep in the elements. It also allowed me to hone my skills as a writer and business person. Now I am ready to publish a new magazine that extends further into the crisis of the unhoused. Not only will it include stories solely written by those unhoused, but it also allows the time to go into further depth on the stories that impact our lives the most. Even more importantly, much of the proceeds from the magazine sales will eventually go to programs that I, as someone who has lived outside of mainstream housing for a decade, feel are vital to ending this crisis we call homelessness. It takes a lot of effort to get this up and going. Subscriptions help, but to meet the expense and the costs of covering my time, effort, software subscriptions, and more while producing the highest quality product that I can and not sink further into crippling debt, I need the funds I am requesting. I appreciate anything that you are able to do to make this magazine a realIIty!
