A few weeks ago I read in the newspaper about a heartbreaking situation. A mom had three pregancies including a set of twins ending up with 4 brain injured kids.This bothered me especially because I'm very familiar with a premiere non-profit in Philadelphia that for the past 50 years has literally performed miracles rehabilitating kids labeled "Cerebral Palsy", "blind", "deaf", etc to normal status based on what's today called neuroplasticity. They have a rehab and train parents on exactly what exercises to do. (Check out IAHP.org) Sadly, many doctors even in the U.S. have no idea they exist...That's why I couldn't help but feel moved -you don't know what you don't know - and so I felt compelled to visit this family myself. The situation was awful. They live in a low income neighborhood and are cramped into a tiny home. The mom, Luisa, is 30 years old, now divorced...and takes care of her 4 kids. She has worked hard the past 11 years with local institutions that has been able to help but without any improvements for the long term. Her kids needs more expertise and an efective program that mom can implement at home. This is what the institute in Philadelphia can offer!! In Colombia, Pereira where they live, there just aren't the social services to help. Luisa is stuck - she relies on local and family help and the few government institutions that provide limited medical support. She's got the biggest heart you can imagine but is barely getting by trying to provide for her kids.We've already funded some expenses and I'm investing a lot of time administratively to make this happen but I need your help.We still need to raise the following funds which will be used for a medical assessment, training for the mother on accelerated developmental exercises and travel expenses from Pereira, Colombia to Philadelphia:1) The tuition for mother's training is $1560 includes translation.2)Child appoitment $37003)Visas expenses $7604)Travel expenses to US $25005)Lodging,transportation and food $17506) Translation servises for child appoitment $4007)Training material for kid $250The class starts Nov 29th and her specialist appointment, which I arranged is a week after that so we don't have much time to book all of the travel and make arrangements.Getting an appointment with the Institutes is hard - many families wait 6 to 12 months. And many kids get worse or die before they can get there so this is the opportunity of a lifetime for this family!We only need $10,920 to make this happen.
