Many of you already know and love Lori and Don Sorensen. For those of you who do not allow me introduce you…….In 1996 Lori met my daughter, Maggie, in the theater department at WCU. A best friendship began to form between these two. I was immediately drawn to this spunky redhead and wanted to adopt her as one of my own.In 2002 I lost my mother to cancer and in 2004 my sister Judy joined her. As painful a loss as this was, fate was not finished with me and in 2007 I too fell victim to cancer. My result, as you can assume, was victorious. In 2009 I severed the tendon in my left ankle and was bedridden for 6 weeks. You may wonder why I am telling you so much about me when this letter is to tell you about Lori.   After 8 years of loss, pain , and suffering the fog began to clear and there standing behind me was Lori.   I’ve loved her like a daughter ever since. When Lori met the love of her life, Don Sorensen, we were all there to meet and inspect. It soon became obvious these two had much in common. They enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, but not without sharing their joy with everyone. Their wedding day was magnificent and truly shared by all. Their love was not without challenges. Lori’s Mom became ill and in what seemed like the blink of an eye, lost her life to lung cancer. One year later cancer came back and claimed her Father as well.Lori and Don stood tough through these rough times and were thrilled to learn they were expecting a child. However, this joy was short lived when Don was diagnosed with Urothelial Bladder Cancer and Lori miscarried shortly after learning of Don’s diagnosis. There was little time to mourn as Lori and Don set out to find the best specialists in the area. Their travels led them from NC, FL and TX.   Soon Don was invited to participate in a study at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. This was the last hope of saving Don’s life.Don lost his courageous battle on January, 29th 2015On July 4th 2015 Lori welcomed a beautiful baby Girl named Piper Alexa Sorensen.  She is a miracle and a blessing. The birth of a child is a joyous occasion and their love can be seen every time you look into Piper's sparkling eyes but life is hard as a single parent and unfortunately cancer is expensive and not only leaves broken hearts and teary eyes in it's wake; It leaves a mountain of debt. So here we are. What's next? What can you do to help? You may not realize it but you have the chance to change someone's life for the better.  And not just anyone but the girl who remembers every birthday. The girl who sends the best Christmas gifts to our kids, and watches our dogs, and calls to see how you are for no reason. Our girl, LORI. She has been thinking of us for years and now it is our turn to take care of her. Please go to the site below, follow the prompt and give what you can afford. Skip that Starbucks today and spend $8 on Lori.  Dig in your couch and send $3.15 to Piper.  Make dinner at home instead of going out and send $40 to pay down Don's medical bills. If we all give a little, we can make a big difference. Be assured all monies will go to Lori. The website below should answer all your questions and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
