UPDATE: The goal has been met so this fundraiser is now closed. But as a severely underpaid freelancer, I'm still welcoming tips and other love through Venmo @jireh-deng. Hi folks, I’m seeking community help to replace my freelancing equipment that was stolen. At around 2 am on Sunday, July 15 in LA, my car window was broken into and all my camera gear including my laptop, Sony A7IV camera, and audio recording equipment was stolen.  My name is Jireh Deng. You might be connected to me through a friend or a loved one! I’m an independent writer, poet, and documentary filmmaker who’s had work in the LA Times, the Guardian, NPR, the Washington Post, HuffPo, Teen Vogue, and much more. My passion and focus is on queer and communities of color in my local reporting. This is my full-time job and passion. This equipment is an essential part of my livelihood as an independent filmmaker, photographer, and reporter in LA. I won’t be able to work if I don’t have access to a laptop or camera.  I have been dedicated towards documenting communities of color and LGBTQ issues in LA and beyond and I hope you love my work enough to help me at this moment while I’ve hit a bump in my career. I’m not financially in a space where I can just drop 9 grand to replace everything. These types of barriers are what keep queer POC storytellers like me from continuing. Thank God nobody was hurt. But I really need help covering the cost of replacing this equipment as well as paying for the costs of repairing my car so I’m hoping you would help by pitching in whatever amount you can. Any amount helps. Please share with your aunties, tias, parents, and friends.
