When we think of Lizandra, the first word that comes to mind is compassion. She is kind and giving and has a zeal for life that lights up a room when she enters. She is not only a practitioner of yoga, but rather lives the yoga that she teaches. "I am reminded that this gift of our human life is a BIG fucking deal. I am reminded that my only life purpose is to live in cherished connection with love, source and community at all levels. May we each live our days in connection to what we care most deeply about." - Lizandra (9/25/15)If you don't know Lizandra personally, you may know her through her work. Not only is she a yoga student and teacher, she is also a Certified Holistic Health Counselor and Thai Massage practitioner who is passionate about helping people find their own way into holistic wellness in all aspects of their lives. She just moved back to Pittsburgh after living and teaching yoga in Haiti for 2.5 years, where she founded an amazing organization to introduce yoga as a transformational tool of empowerment to everyone, regardless of background and trains adolescents to teach kids yoga classes. Most recently, Lizandra enrolled in massage school so she can further her skills.Lizandra embodies the spirit, heart and soul, of the yoga that she teaches. Here is a another recent quote from her: "I Fall into your sweet arms in a new way of being. I Find trust and truth in your transition into a new season. Autumnal awakening activated through the process of letting go of old stories that are no longer true.” Now Lizandra needs our help. On the early morning of October 22, 2015, she had a terrible accident, falling down her steps at home, fracturing her neck and damaging her spinal cord. After emergent surgery and a tenuous 48 hours in the ICU, she is awake and well, but has paralysis from the elbows down. She does have healthcare coverage, but her only source of income otherwise is teaching yoga and Thai body work. It is still early in the course of her injury to determine prognosis, but even with a positive outcome, Lizandra will not be able to teach or provide body work for upwards of 6 months while she undergoes intense rehabilitation. She will need funds to help cover her medical and living expenses while she works toward a full recovery.Lizandra is a fighter. We know she can pull through this and we know that once she is better we will all look back on this as just another one of life’s obstacles. She has so much more good to offer the world. As a yoga community, we need to support each other through these tough times. Please take the time to give back to someone who has given so much to others by offering any donations, prayers and positive thoughts in a full recovery for Lizandra.-With love, Michelle & Laura
