Hi, we are Cheri and Liz, and we are fundraising for our amazing friend Liza. She has been through so much, yet freely gives of herself and has helped SO many people, all with the most hilarious sarcasm and a mouth that would make a sailor blush! Just a little over 4 years ago, she was at her highest weight. 422lbs. She survived years of childhood abuse in every form possible by the man who called himself her father. As a result, she used food as her escape. She wanted nothing to do with relationships, so changing her body so no one would dare be interested in her intimately made sense at the time. Unfortunately, drugs came into the picture as well. Self hated and loathing became natural. Over the last 4 years, she worked to love herself enough to start healing from the inside out. It wasn't too late for inside healing, and the scars are minimal compared to what they were. The journey of putting on all the on weight took a huge toll on her body, mind, and soul. She has taken off an incredible 232 lbs and is over 7 years in recovery and abstinent from all moodaltering substances, and her life has taken a drastic change for the better. She stays out of self, gives freely to others, and works in a field that changes lives in ways many have never thought possible for themselves. However, during her weight gain journey came some heavy prices. Degenerative disc disease in the lower back. Heart problems. Knee replacement. There's one thing left. A large quantity of of over hanging skin on the stomach that causes severe chronic pain in her back due to the weight of it pulling forward. It throws her off balance, making it difficult to do the necessary exercises to maintain the weight loss, but most importantly interferes with her passion for helping others, and doing fun physical things with her 5 grandkids because the medical difficulties , including severe fungal infections under the skin emit an embarrassing smell and cause severe raw skin pain. Her life is limited by these issues, and skin removal surgery can help immensely with all of them. Unfortunately insurance has deemed this surgery as cosmetic instead of medically necessary as it should and will not cover it.
