Pam MacDonald is a loving Wife to Doug, a caring mother to Taunya, Angie and Kelsey and very proud Grandmother to five beautiful grandchildren. Pam has three supportive sisters, Sandra Harrison, Carolyn Herfkens and Kim Carruthers. Pam has been suffering from Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis or NASH which is the most severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease since October 2024. Despite great efforts by Pam and her team of Doctors, a liver transplant is the only life-saving option remaining. This disease has caused numerous hospitalizations due to infections, blood transfusions and multiple procedures due to complications. One of the most severe is Hepatic Encephalopathy. Since the liver is not working properly, toxins build up in the blood and affect brain function causing severe confusion. This is not only difficult for Pam but very strenuous for the family as primary caregivers. The odds of Pam receiving a matching donor to successfully receive a new liver while still meeting requirements by the transplant team are extremely rare. Kelsey Hannah (Pam’s Daughter and best friend) wants to save her Mother’s life. To qualify to be a donor, Kelsey lost over sixty pounds and made frequent trips to Toronto for MRI, CT scan, X-Ray, laboratory testing and ultrasounds as this surgery is only performed in Toronto. After all these tests were completed, Kelsey received the news that she is a perfect match and donor for her Mother. The odds of Kelsey being a match for her Mother were one in a million. Although the family received this wonderful news, there are many financial hardships endured during this process and many more to come. Pam’s Husband Doug MacDonald decided to resign from his job to be at home and care for his wife Pam. Kelsey needed to receive medication costing up to one thousand dollars a month. The family purchased a hospital bed for the home to make Pam more comfortable. The family also had many trips to Toronto for testing causing travel expenses and Kelsey taking unpaid leave from work. Kelsey and Pam are scheduled for Surgery on August 14th or at the latest August 16th in Toronto. Pam will have to stay with her Husband Doug in Toronto for three months following the surgery to be closely monitored by the team of Physicians. Kelsey will be required to stay in Toronto for two weeks to be monitored and be on a leave of absence from work for three months. Kelsey’s Husband Chris will also require a leave from work to be able to care for Kelsey and their two children who are eight and four years of age. Kelsey and her husband have been working as healthcare professionals for the past ten years. Kelsey is a Registered Nurse working at The Kemptville District and Winchester Memorial Hospital. Through this process, Kelsey has been stoic and never made a single complaint. Her selfless decision of donating seventy percent of her liver will allow her Mother to live a happy and healthy life. At this time the Family and Kelsey's work family is asking for the community to come together and help support Pam and her family during this difficult time. Any donation made is greatly appreciated and will make a significant impact on Pam and Kelsey’s recovery.
