Hello, my name is Eva Marrale a friend of Karen Joy. We all know and love our fun, vibrant, creative and spunky Karen Joy. She needs your help right now as things with her health have become unbearable and she needs a surgery for a better quality of life. Here is a message in more detail from Karen Joy’s sister Kim: My sister, Karen Joy, is a self employed social worker who counsels couples and children. She is also the main emotional support for our mother, who is in a care home in Karen Joy’s town. Karen Joy, who has spent much of her life helping others, now needs our help. Many troubling medical issues, compounded by tremendous pain, have finally resulted in a diagnosis for Karen Joy. The diagnosis is a large uterine fibroid which has calcified. This has caused an enlarged Uterus, pressure on her organs and great discomfort. This is quickly leading to a necessary surgery. After a decade of pain, this operation will likely bring relief and increased mobility. Karen Joy must have major surgery in August. After the procedure, she will need several weeks of recovery. She will not be able to work. Your financial assistance will help Karen Joy pay her medical bills and other basics (rent, food, basic bills) and allow her to get the bedrest she needs to fully heal before returning to work. Karen Joy has been heroic at advocating and organizing for herself during this difficult time. She took herself to the ER. She found a specialist to perform the surgery. She has organized shifts of friends to care for her when she returns home. She is even buying groceries in advance and planning easy meals that her caregivers can prepare during her recovery. But the one thing she cannot do right now is to generate her own income. This major medical event is affecting my sister physically, emotionally, and financially. Helping to fund Karen Joy during this trying and scary time will ease some of the fear and worry, letting her focus on a full recovery. Thank you! -Kim (Karen Joy’s older sister)
