Our beautiful friend Levan Hoang has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. Levan is no stranger to adversity. As an infant, she was abandoned in Vietnam after the war and was given up for adoption. As a toddler, she survived a road accident which killed her adoptive mother’s sister, her aunt, who tragically died as she was protecting the two-year-old Levan in her arms. Despite growing up with many hardships and challenges, Levan was always a good daughter and a constant source of pride and joy for her adoptive family. Later in life, Levan obtained the opportunity to come to the USA to be reunited with her biological family. She was determined to overcome the cultural and language barriers to pursue her education, ultimately graduating with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. She works as a pharmacist and continues to support her elderly adoptive mother in Vietnam, although she will now need to take an extended leave of absence in order to treat her cancer. Levan is known to her friends as a caring, compassionate, selfless, and generous spirit, always available and ready to jump in and give whatever she can to those who are in need of help. Shortly after her graduation from pharmacy school, she traveled to Uganda to volunteer in the treatment of HIV patients there. She frequently gives donations to monasteries and charities like Doctors Without Borders and the Wildlife Conservation Network. Additionally, she recently joined a friend in donating medications and food to treat 1,263 homeless street dogs in Bali who have been suffering from mange. Levan’s cancer requires a one-year intensive treatment regimen of chemotherapy, surgery, and immunotherapy. However, her health insurance only covers some treatments that are beneficial for eradicating the disease. Please help us fund treatments that are not covered by insurance.
