Jackie Epping is a dear friend who lives in New Orleans. I met her and Andy, her husband, in 2019. We grew especially close during 2024, while sequestered to a small social group during the pandemic (which we aptly named the "Pan Fam"). Tolstoy once wrote, “Just as one candle lights another and can light thousands of other candles, so one heart illuminates another heart and can illuminate thousands of other hearts.” This beautifully captures Jackie's influence on me and many others. She is a joy to spend time with, and her fun and caring spirit is infectious. Jackie has a rare form of cancer called liposarcoma. Since 2018, she has had seven surgeries and hospitalizations, to remove tumors or deal with complications from prior surgeries. In 2024 alone, she had two surgeries, two emergency room visits, and was hospitalized for six weeks. In addition, she has received home health nursing and requires ongoing home health equipment and supplies. Even with health insurance, the medical bills for all of this are daunting. Estimates at this point are $15,000 for 2024. Jackie and Andy are retired and live on a fixed income. They have struggled to pay earlier medical costs, and currently don’t have the means to pay 2024 medical bills. We have a great opportunity and responsibility to lend them a helping hand. Not only will this fundraiser help them financially, but it will also ease some of the emotional burden they have to manage while Jackie recovers from her recent surgery. Let's support our dear friends during this time of difficulty. Together we can triumph and knock out their healthcare expenses. Thank you in advance for your generous contribution.
