Como muchos de ustedes saben, Alejo, tiene síndrome de Dravet lo que le ha causado (entre otras muchas cosas) que no pueda hablar, pero quiero contarles que él ha aprendido a comunicarse por medio de una app instalada en una tablet (Comunicación AAC) y ahora, él puede expresar lo que quiere, lo que siente, lo que necesita... La comunicación es vital para la calidad de vida de cualquier persona de cualquier edad, es lo que nos incluye. Desafortunadamente, llevamos un proceso durante 5 meses con el seguro para que Alejo pueda tener su propia tablet con esta app todo el tiempo con él y así pueda comunicarse 24/7 y no solo 1 hora a la semana mientras está en terapia de lengüaje, pero para ellos no es algo importante, nos la han negado 2 veces y aunque entramos otra vez en apelación, sinceramente no creo que sea algo que vaya a salir pronto. Alejo, empieza el kinder a mediados de agosto y necesita poder comunicarse ya que no podré estar con él para explicar sus señas y/o sonidos, por lo tanto ES URGENTE poder darle esta herramienta de comunicación para que pueda desenvolverse mas tranquilo en el colegio con sus maestras y compañeros. La app tiene un costo de $300 dólares y podemos conseguir un iPad de segunda mano en aproximadamente $200 dólares para instalarla. Son $500 dólares más impuestos. Es aquí donde necesitamos el apoyo de todos para lograrlo, pues los gastos actuales no nos han permitido reunir el dinero y nos parte el corazón ver a Alejo frustrado cuando no puede expresar lo que siente porque no tenemos la herramienta adecuada. Y por otro lado, en mayo le diagnosticaron apnea, lo cual, sumado a las convulsiones nocturnas que suele tener, incrementa el riesgo SUDEP y necesita una cama segura para descansar por las noches (también ya nos fue negada por el seguro 2 veces). Una cama médica que está diseñada para alertar cuando está teniendo un crisis convulsiva, alerta sobre la temperatura corporal (uno de los detonantes de convulsiones en Alejo, es el calor o el incremento de temperatura corporal, por lo que esta alerta es vital para nosotros), tiene una cámara con micrófono (muchas de las convulsiones de Alejo empiezan con unos gritos muy específicos y luego viene el temblor del cuerpo), tiene sonidos relajantes para tranquilizar la mente, tiene aromaterapia, luz ténue y gradual (Alejo convulsiona si se apaga la luz de repente y queda todo obscuro, necesita transiciones de luz) y está diseñada para que no se caiga (especialmente durante una crisis). Se llama CUBBY BED, fue recomendada y recetada por el neurólogo tratante de Alejo pero no hubo forma de que el seguro aceptara esta necesidad tan grande. Por ahora, Alejo, duerme con nosotros, es la forma en que puedo estar "tranquila" ya que me despierto seguido a ver como está, a tomar su temperatura y si empieza a convulsionar lo sentimos casi inmediatamente, pero Alejo ya está demasiado grande y cada vez es mas complicado para todos tener un optimo descanso. Esto, sumado al alto nivel de estrés que nos agobia permanentemente, el no poder dormir me está causando varios problemas de salud física y mental y me preocupa mucho no poder estar al 100% alerta para cuidar adecuadamente de Alejo. Creemos que esta cama podría darnos algo de paz y tranquilidad para descansar un poco más. El costo de esta cama es de $13.490 dólares más impuestos. No paramos de luchar por Alejo, de buscar siempre lo mejor para él porque es un niño maravilloso y se merece todo lo bonito, pero a veces se nos sale de las manos poder adquirir todo lo que él necesita para tener una vida mas llevadera... For now, Alejo, sleep with us, it's the way I can be "calm" since I wake up often to see how he is, to take his temperature and if he starts convulsing we feel it almost immediately, but Alejo is already too big and It is increasingly difficult for everyone to have an optimal rest.
