We are coming together here to help support our Family, Friend, Community Matriarch, and All Around HDIC. We all know Laurie one way or another. She was the Motherly GM of Faces Nightclub for two decades. She was a Charity Board Member and Rainbow Festival Organizer for almost as long. She is caring, and concerned while never willing to entertain your bullshit - nor famously, mine. She is also part of a great big Orange Family. After countless hours, literal blood sweat and tears, always working tirelessly to support the community and everyone around her. She, for the first time I have personally ever experienced, since meeting my own "Bar Mamma" 23yrs ago - has begrudgingly asked for help. This is difficult for her and if you know her you already understand why, this stoic rock of a human being, has a hard time doing so. Our Family, our Friend, Laurie was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Now to be as forthcoming as possible, her diagnosis is treatable and manageable and "we" (Drs included) fully expect a full and quick recovery. However, this interruption in her otherwise daily life does come with a cost. She will go in to surgery this week, and will be out of work for recovery for an unexpected number of weeks after. While insurance is a great assistance - many of us have experienced emergency medical costs ourselves and feel the toll it takes. Medical insurance doesn't cover your time out of work, the mortgage, the grocery or electric bill.. Etc. It is possible that Laurie could be out of pocket more than what our goal is here, but we needed to start somewhere and be realistic about the situation. We are asking that any donation that is possible is considered. As we know having worked many a Charity Event with Laurie at the helm, while big bills make big tills, we count singles at the end of every night. Please share. Try to keep in mind - We can vouch for the time she had spent already in her life helping to raise money for anything and everything that was every set in front of her. She will be in prep and then OR already this week, so I am willing and able to answer any questions or update anyone in her progress until she is capable.
