Aloha! I’m Erik, on my bday on July 23rd, I will be racing Ironman Oregon 70.3 to help raise funds for my good friend & co-worker Bri, who was sadly recently diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. The courage, strength and determination she exudes, inspires everyone around her including myself which will help push me across another finish line in her home state of Oregon! Fxckcancer! Bri’s Story- In 2019 at 32 years of age Bri was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. It was awful news but she knew she could fight this! After chemotherapy, a bilateral mastectomy and radiation, she was declared NED (no evidence of disease) on August 17, 2024! The last few years have been amazing for her, she met the most amazing & supportive partner, got a new kitten and got into graduate school to pursue social work. She loves arts & crafts, hanging out with her two cats, hiking and exploring this beautiful island. Unfortunately, in May of 2024 her scans began to come back abnormal and after a bone scan on June 8th she was told her breast cancer had metastasized to her rib cage. So now at age 36 going into menopause, giving up her dream of having a child, putting her graduate degree on hold she is trying to figure out what the future looks like living with stage 4 cancer. It’s scary and overwhelming but she is so grateful for her big ohana here in Kona and her great oncology team as well. Whatever funds that are raised will allow her to take time off work to recover from treatments and help her pay for certain medications(chemo) that are not covered by insurance. Please keep Bri & her family in your thoughts & prayers! Huge Mahalo for any and all support!
