Hi, this is Kate, Mel and Lya. We are Julie and Ryan’s friends and we are organizing this to help raise funds for their sweet family, to help them through this difficult time. On Thursday morning, August 3, 2024, Ryan called Julie confused and disoriented on his way to work. Julie rushed him to the hospital and after multiple CT scans and MRI’s, they found 2 tumors in his brain. At this point, the doctors are talking about the possibilities of Glioblastoma or Central Nervous System Lymphoma, but we are waiting on a biopsy to confirm what exactly we are dealing with, which will be taken on Monday. Without Ryan’s income, we are asking for help with essentials like bills and groceries and possible medical treatment, as they are the last thing that Ryan and Julie should be focusing on or worrying about. Ryan is passionate about guitars, music, and their 2 cats, but most of all he is absolutely in love with his family- Julie, Kale and Kora. They are his motivation to get up every day and do all of the amazing things that he does. Now, they are his reason to fight cancer with everything he has! Ryan is the first guy to lend a hand, no matter how inconvenient it may be. He loves people and is always willing to show up for anyone in need. So now, he needs our help and prayers. Julie and Ryan were married on September 23, 2017 where Ryan vowed to step into the role of “dad” for Kale, though he has always treated him as his own since the day they met. They completed their family when they welcomed Kora into the world on May 23, 2018. This year, Ryan made it official and adopted Kale on May 19, 2024. He and Kale were so excited to officially share the Lystad name, though he has been “dad” for many years before then. Julie is our best friend and anyone who knows her can tell you that she is the most empathetic, selfless, strong and nurturing human. She is always looking out for the needs of others before her own and her hugs can make almost anything better. She has been through entirely too much and God just continues to grace her as He is now, in this awful situation. She is tending to Ryan’s every need and a fierce advocate for him, while also caring for Kale and Kora and guiding them through this. We pray this fundraiser allows her to focus on her family. We know he is in the best place possible currently to treat him and we are so grateful that he is there with Julie by his side. We will be sure to update here as soon as we have more answers!
