In case you didn’t know, Leah is a strong woman that doesn’t let on when she is needing a little help. Did you know that Leah has had a kidney transplant since 2009? She was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy as a teenager and her kidneys acutely declined at age 26. For the last 14 years, she has had very few health issues, has graduated college, worked some really fun jobs, traveled, been to a ton of concerts and fell in love! She was told her kidney’s expected lifetime would be around 10 years, going on 15 years she now needs a new kidney transplant. A dear friend has come forward and became a match! Having a living donor increases the life expectancy of the transplant from 10 years to 20+ years! Their surgery is planned for February 1, 2024! Leah does have insurance through her work, but she doesn’t qualify for short term disability. She is considered “uninsurable” for extra perks due to pre-existing major health diagnoses. The out-of-pocket costs and the loss of income from work (expected to be out of work for 8-12 weeks) she will need help with. With any major health event there are some hefty expenses, including Transplant cost (pre-insurance over $500,000), Medical expenses (pre-transplant testing, insurance co-pays and deductibles, post-op appointments procedures and tests, prescriptions for the rest of her life), and non-medical expenses (transportation, parking, food, lost wages). I know I want to help anyway that I can to make sure her 2nd transplant is a success. Any donation size is greatly appreciated and helps tremendously. Thank you for all considerations! https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/kidney-transplant
