I have always had a passion for dance. I started to take dance lessons when I was three years old. My favorite type of dance is hip-hop. Dancing makes me feel free and uninhibited - as though I can accomplish anything. For my Bat Mitzvah project, I am raising money to create a scholarship for children who can’t afford to pay for dance classes. I have been taking dance classes at Locust Performing Art Center (LPAC) for the last five years. I want to create this scholarship fund for kids who have the same passion and drive for dance that I have, but whose families simply can’t afford it. LPAC is filled with so much positive energy, from the staff to the students. Not only do they offer a wide variety of classes for all levels and ages, but Jimmy Locust (LPAC’s founder and artistic director - as well as my teacher for the last two years) has created an environment where expectations are high, but just as important are a student’s feelings of self-worth and self-confidence. As part of my bat mitzvah project I will be working with Jimmy to help select the scholarship recipients, so that they too can experience what I’ve been fortunate to receive. My goal is to raise $2,000 which will provide dance classes for the year for two students. As well, I will be donating a portion of the money I receive as gifts for my bat mitzvah to this wonderful cause. Please help me reach my goal!Sincerely,Leah Brill
