"I appreciate ya!" If you know Larry at all - you have absolutely heard him speak those words. Larry is probably one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, and I am so thankful - as I am certain so many of us are - that we get to call Larry our friend. As his friend, we should do everything we can to help him when he needs it most. As you may know, Larry went missing on June 19th, while he was driving to Santa Fe, NM from his home in TN. We got confirmation that he stopped for gas in Oklahoma City - but from there, we lost him. Around July 3, his family found out he had checked himself into a motel in Oak Grove, KY, paying cash and stayed there for 10 days - when his cash ran out. His truck was spotted by a company that scans motels and other various parking lots for stolen vehicles or vehicles being repossessed. This motel was just a little over an hour from his home. :( When his family got word he was in KY, by the time they followed up with the motel, Larry had already checked out. A few days later, his credit card statement came in and in review of that - there was a charge for a fishing license in KY. So, on July 15th, on a wish and a prayer, his sister and brother-in-law drove up to KY and decided to pull over at the first rest stop in KY ... and saw his truck parked there! For the past couple of weeks or so, Larry had been living in his truck, he was severely dehydrated and living off water from the rest area and vending machines. He was moving his truck back and forth between the rest stops on either side of the highway. I am sure it seems strange that he wouldn't just go home, but if you know Larry, you know how much pride he has and how unselfish he is. On his journey west, being on the road can make your mind wander - and he got into his head somewhere that life was becoming quite overwhelming for him. Things around his house needed attention, his medical insurance premiums were astronomical to the point it almost broke him, and having gone through some surgeries recently and not being able to be as mobile as he once was, clothes didn't fit like they used to - and these were just things that piled up on top of the other burdens he carried on his own. Larry and his family were hit with the loss of four close family members within a 9 month time span, and losing one parent is hard enough, but to lose both parents and two other close relatives in such a short timeframe is a lot to process. I am not sure any of that every truly gets processed, and then to have life still continue on with your own medical issues, bills, and repairs - and feeling as though you have to shoulder everything because of self-set expectations just got to be too much for Larry. And his response was to disappear. Thankfully, Larry had the wherewithal to make his way back close to home and thankfully his family found him alive. This news alone is the most joyous news! There will be some hurdles Larry will have to overcome, and as his friends, we all want to help. Location sometimes prevents us from helping in person and money is a big concern for Larry and I think an excellent way for us to help. If you can spare any amount of money for Larry, I know it would be very much appreciated - even though we also know that Larry is too proud to ask for help, and likely equally as proud to not accept it - his sister has said Larry will have to get over the idea that lots of people really care about him and want to help. We have no doubt that Larry will be so grateful for any amount we can give. This is our way of saying to Larry, "I appreciate ya!"
