Vicki has always been a matriarchal figure to everyone who surrounds her, a loving Aunt to many and Godmother to several.  Her closest friends joke that "the seven degrees of Vicki" have connected all of them together. Although her journey to become a mother herself hasn't been a short one, the events in July 2015 have caused additional bumps in the road.  Seeking the advice of a fertility specialist the decision was made to remove a dermoid cyst in her right ovary to "flush out" her system and increase the chances of conceiving.  It was during the surgery on 7/31/15 while removing the cyst that they discovered a small cancerous tumor behind it.  Initially she was given a diagnosis of Stage 1 Ovarian Cancer, specifically Granulosa Cell Tumor (GCT), which accounts for only 5% of ovarian cancer diagnosis.  Vicki was told that since the tumor was already removed, that they recommend a removal of her right ovary and that she had a 95% chance success rate with just the surgery alone and being able to move forward with her dream of being a mom. A second surgery was completed 8/26/15 to remove her right ovary, fallopian tube, 21 lymph nodes, and biopsy all organs exposed to the removal of the first cyst.  The biopsy results from the second surgery showed microscopic traces of the cancer have spread to the left side of her abdomen wall as well, thus officially diagnosing Vicki with Stage 3 A Ovarian Cancer.  Although the traces of cancer are microscopic, it has been recommended to treat this with six rounds of chemotherapy, utilizing two types of drugs. Treatment will begin 10/23/15, administered every 3 weeks, lasting through mid February.  During the last few weeks Vicki and Dan have decided to proceed with the IVF process. This will allow them to place some eggs on hold so that they can continue their dream of becoming parents in the years ahead in case chemo leaves them unable to continue that journey. Despite the financial implications, Vicki and Dan decided this was something that they needed to pursue in order to have a chance of having a child of their own.  During this difficult time, Vicki plans to continue working through her treatments for as long as she can.   Although it is widely known that Vicki is one of THE STRONGEST PEOPLE all of us have ever known, cancer is cancer.  It is difficult and unpredictable and no one has the ability to know exactly how it will affect them, until they go through it. Vicki's closet family and friends want to make sure that everything doesn't add up too quickly and that Vicki can focus on one thing…FIGHTING THIS!.  While some of us know or have heard what kinds of costs can be associated with cancer treatment, one never actually knows until they go through it themselves.  We don't want her to have to worry about how the medical bills are building up, as this is already happening and we want her to have a choice if she needs to take time off of work.  She needs EVERY OUNCE of strength to beat this and we would love your support.  If you are able to help us reach our goal and donate we truly appreciate it.  No amount is too small and every amount will make a difference.  Vicki is the type of person who has spent her life taking care of others, being the support system for others, and providing strength for others.  Now she needs the support and strength.  Please consider donating what you can for someone who truly makes this world a better place!
