Kick Butt Katie T-shirt - order yours here!!! Katie has been diagnosed with a reoccurrence of her previous cancer Leiomyosarcoma. She has been able to enjoy the last 3 years with no evidence of cancer. She was told originally she had a 70% chance of reoccurrence within 5 years. She chose to live her life and not worry about it, and was blessed with the time she was not battling this awful cancer! Because of where the tumor is located, it is not operable this time. The tumor is touching or right behind the renal artery, aorta and inferior vena cava (IVC). If they were to perform surgery she would most likely lose her remaining kidney, renal artery and part of the IVC and they probably still wouldn’t be able to get all of the cancer. Katie was advised to go to MD Anderson in Houston to see a doctor who specializes in sarcomas. Her appointment was on August 1st where she got her treatment plan. The treatment will be 6 cycles of chemo (3 weeks each). Katie will do the 1st two cycles at MDA then as long as everything is going ok, transition to doing the rest of the chemo cycles at home. Katie will have scans after every 2 cycles and those will be at MDA. The great news is the Dr’s think they can get her cancer free again since it hasn’t spread to the rest of her body, but they will have to be really aggressive. If the treatments work, Katie can be back to living her life by Christmas! Let’s pray for that!!! Katie said, “I’m in a positive place and I am focusing on all the things I can control in my life to be healthy and ready to battle this! Have no fear this isn’t a sad story this will be a story of victory and triumph where God gets the glory!" If you know Katie at all, you know she loves to be the one to give, so as you can imagine it is hard for her to be on the other end. I know for so many of us, we have been on the receiving end of her generosity! With the treatment and travel, and everything that comes along with this; I have set up this LFEBridge so we can join together and help take some of the financial load off.
