Hello to all, My name is Betzaida Miranda, and I am setting this account up for Khailee Ann Riquelmy Vázquez. Her mom, Jessica, and I grew up together as sisters, so to me, Khailee is one of my beautiful nieces. Recently we found out that, at only 16 years old, Khailee has a cancerous tumor called Ewing's sarcoma. As you may imagine it is shocking, confusing but mostly heartbreaking to hear the word cancer in the same sentence of your loved one's name, and even more especially when it is of a child. So, after carefully praying to Jehovah God, and begging him for guidance and to help me stay calm so that I can support Khailee, her parents, and her little sister Kehani in any way I can, I first did some research. This is what I learned so far. Ewing's sarcoma is a very rare type of bone and soft tissue cancer that grows either in the bones or in the tissue surrounding the bones. It is typically found in the long bones of people aged between 10 and 20 years old. If it metastasizes, this cancer can move to other bones or even the lungs and brain. Symptoms include bone pain, swelling, fever, and tiredness. Background on Khailee’s condition: In 2024, Khailee felt a small bump on her buttock. Her parents took her to at least 4 doctors who treated this bump as a simple cyst. One doctor tried to remove the so-called cyst without success. After a fifth consult, the "cyst" was surgically removed. However, the good news came with bad news as well. First, this "cyst" was now a cancerous tumor, which grew up to the size of a baseball in a small amount of time, and second, it is a very rare type of cancer. So rare that only approximately 200+ cases are diagnosed each year in the USA (or about 1% of all cancers in children and adolescents). The initial treatment plan set for Khailee is 12 rounds of chemo which can last for at least 7-8 months. At this point we cannot discard radiation or pills. The aggressive treatment will result in very scary side effects, some short term others lifelong. Although it certainly is a life-changing process, Khailee has been very brave and strong. Most of all, she has demonstrated unwavering faith in Jehovah God, even though what the near future holds for her is unimaginable and uncertain. Still, this has not stopped her from doing what she loves most: spreading the word of God, sharing her beliefs, and teaching others about her hope of living in a new world without cancer and illnesses. (Ap. 21:4) Khailee is a happy-talented adolescent, who loves getting to know people of all ages, loves to sing and loves learning new languages so she can use them to spread God’s word, including Spanish, English, American Sign Language and Korean! She is fortunate to have a strong network of family and friends that support her and the family in any way they can. Her little sister Kehani has been always by her side making sure Khailee feels the love she deserves. This is only the beginning of this unwanted journey. With that being said, we are going to need your help. With only one family member currently working, these bills are quickly overwhelming the family. Many people have asked if they could help in some way, and well, this is it. If you donate, you will be helping Khailee to receive the best care she deserves. That is our top priority! Su madre, Jessica, y yo crecimos juntas como hermanas, así que para mí Khailee es una de mis hermosas sobrinas. Recientemente descubrimos que, con solo 16 años, Khailee tiene un tumor canceroso llamado sarcoma de Ewing. Como puede imaginar una noticia como esa es impactante, confusa, pero sobre todo es desgarrador escuchar la palabra cáncer en la misma oración donde se menciona el nombre de su ser querido, y aún más cuando se trata de una niña. Entonces, después de orar cuidadosamente a Jehová Dios, y rogarle que me guíe y me ayude a mantener la calma para poder apoyar a Khailee, sus padres y su hermana pequeña Kehani de la mejor manera, primero dediqué tiempo a entender la condición. Esto es lo que he aprendido hasta ahora. El sarcoma de Ewing es un tipo muy raro de cáncer de hueso y tejidos blandos que crece en los huesos o en el tejido que rodea los huesos. Por lo general, afecta personas de entre 10 y 20 años de edad. Si hace metástasis, este cáncer puede moverse a otros huesos o incluso a los pulmones y el cerebro. Los síntomas incluyen dolor óseo, hinchazón, fiebre y cansancio. Historial de la condición de Khailee: En 2024, Khailee sintió un pequeño nódulo en su piel. Sus padres la llevaron a al menos 4 médicos que trataron esta nódulo como un quiste. Se trató de extirpar el llamado quiste dos veces sin éxito. Finalmente, el "quiste" fue extirpado quirúrgicamente en su totalidad. Sin embargo, las buenas noticias también vinieron con malas noticias. Primero, este "quiste" no era sino un tumor canceroso, que creció hasta el tamaño de una pelota de béisbol en corto tiempo, y segundo, es un tipo muy raro de cáncer. Tan raro que aproximadamente sólo 200+ casos son diagnosticados cada año en EE.UU. (o alrededor del 1% entre los cánceres en niños y adolescentes). El plan de tratamiento inicial establecido para Khailee es de 12 rondas de quimioterapia que pueden durar al menos 7-8 meses. No podemos descartar la radiación o las píldoras como posible tratamiento adicional. El tratamiento es agresivo y resultará en efectos secundarios severos. Aunque ciertamente es un proceso que cambia la vida, Khailee ha sido muy valiente y fuerte. Sobre todo, ha demostrado una fe inquebrantable en Jehová Dios, a pesar de que lo que le depara el futuro cercano es inimaginable e incierto. Sin embargo, esto no le ha impedido hacer lo que más ama: difundir la palabra de Dios, compartir sus creencias y enseñar a otros sobre su esperanza de vivir en un mundo nuevo donde ni cáncer ni otras enfermedades existan. (Ap. 21:4) Khailee es una adolescente feliz y talentosa, a quien le encanta conocer gente de todas las edades, le encanta cantar y le encanta aprender nuevos idiomas, tales como español, inglés, lenguaje americano de señas y coreano, los cuales ha utilizado para difundir la palabra de Dios. Ella es afortunada de tener una sólida red de familiares y amigos que la apoyan a ella y a su familia de cualquier manera que puedan. Su hermana pequeña Kehani siempre ha estado a su lado asegurándose de que Khailee sienta el amor que se merece. Este es solo el comienzo de este viaje no deseado. Dicho esto, entenderá por qué vamos a necesitar su ayuda. Con solo un miembro de la familia trabajando actualmente, estas facturas están abrumando rápidamente a la familia.
