I have always been someone who willingly offered help to others without asking for it in return. However, in January of last year, I was faced with a difficult choice between undergoing surgery or never being able to walk again when my right hip gave out. After eight months of recovery, I was finally able to walk again, but it left me in a challenging financial situation. This was the first time in my life that I fell behind on all of my bills. Thankfully, most places were understanding and provided me with some leeway. Now, after 18 months, I have returned to work full time, but I am unable to physically perform my job as I used to. In fact, I even had to step down from a management position because my physical limitations prevented me from fulfilling its demands. Working 12-15 hour shifts, constantly on my feet, is simply not feasible for me anymore. As a result, my paychecks have been significantly reduced, between paycut and hours lost to the point where they are less than half of what I used to earn. Having one month of my previous paychecks would greatly help me get ahead. It would mean transitioning from earning $4800 a month (with 20-30 hours of overtime per week) to only $1500 a month (working a straight 40-hour week). This additional income would allow me to alleviate the constant struggle of going hungry just to keep up with my mortgage, SUV payment, car insurance, and house bills such as power, internet, phone.
