Good Day, my name is Kathy Black. I am writing to you to ask for help. I have a genetic blood disorder called Factor V Leiden. Factor V Leiden causes a person to be more likely to develop blood clots within their veins. This can happen with no provocation. It has now become necessary for me to apply for disability due to complications from the 4 most recent clots. The condition has no cure currently. It can be managed with medications but clots can still occur. The first clots occurred in my early 20s. It started as a deep vein thrombosis or DVT, in my calf that subsequently broke off and lodged in one of my lungs. I survived this occurrence due to quick action by my brother, Dave, who rushed me to the hospital and by the after-care of both my sister, Bonnie, and brother, Dave. I recovered relatively unscathed. Not so for the recent clots. 2 were found in my calf and 1 clot in each lung. These latest occurrences have created chronic health challenges. Post-thrombolitic syndrome has caused my calf to remain swollen, even while at rest. The swelling becomes worse and is accompanied by pain when standing. My physical stamina has decreased significantly and limits what I am able to accomplish in a day. There will always be the chance of developing another clot. The anxiety regarding another clot is intense. My future looks radically different than what I had planned for my life. Restructuring, adjusting and many course corrections will be necessary. I am asking for your help in surviving the next several months while the process of applying for disability is completed. All of my emergency savings were exhausted in the pandemic. I have downsized monthly expenses to the minimum and have been receiving food from local food banks. Current expenses equate to $1,400.00 a month. Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be grateful for any donations. And if you are unable to donate, please keep me in your prayers. To quote Marilyn Monroe, “Keep a good thought for me.”
